Day In the Life
Reporting to Dispatch Supervisor, the dispatcher’s responsibilities include management and accountability of the GPS-dispatching software system, order receiving-entry and schedule driver & broker load dispatching. Generate/manage and maintain reports and distribution. Manage driver hours of service. The Dispatcher’s responsibility also ensures a full back up of the Dispatching Supervisor’s role and assumes these additional tasks in the absence of the Dispatch Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Manage dispatching software system
- Receive orders from customers and keep them informed on status of dispatch
- Establish delivery schedules according to factors such as truck capacities, distances to delivery site, and unloading time. Process order entry & track scheduling through GPS verification
- Administration of safety and environmental compliance, apply The Miller Group’s Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures
- Receive daily Bills of Lading (BOL) from drivers and enter in SharePoint system
- Monitor daily driver work logs and ensure charge codes are correct for accurate payroll processing
- Generate and manage all scheduled reports, such as, sales, safety operational etc.
- Ensure completion and compliance of the daily Job Hazard Analysis
- Accept and coordinate customer orders
- Schedule employees and equipment to ensure efficient Cement deliveries
- Resolve customer complaints in a timely and professional manner
- Assist with both manual and computerized record keeping
- Resolve scheduling or other discrepancies that may arise
Qualifications
- 2–4 years of experience in dispatching, logistics, or transportation coordination (preferably in concrete or construction industry).
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Post-secondary education in logistics, business administration, or related field preferred.
- Experience with GPS tracking and dispatch systems.
- Proven ability to manage high-volume scheduling and customer interactions.
- Transportation or logistics certifications (e.g., Dispatcher Certification, DOT compliance training) an asset.
- Safety orientation with working knowledge of OHSA, an asset
- Ability to manage multiple schedules and priorities under time pressure.
- Quick decision-making to resolve delivery conflicts and operational challenges.
- Clear and professional interaction with customers, drivers, and internal teams.
- Ability to motivate and manage a team in a high-volume environment.
- Accurate documentation and compliance monitoring.
- Responds effectively to changing conditions and urgent requests.
- Knowledge of transportation regulations, DOT compliance, and safety standards.
- Proficiency in dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, and MS Office tools.
- Ability to interpret delivery schedules, load requirements, and jobsite specifications.
- Basic knowledge of fleet maintenance and vehicle capacity planning.
- Understanding of Cement and Concrete operations, batching, and delivery processes preferred
Compensation Data
Salary Range of $63,000 - $75,000 per annum
