Are you looking to continue your journey to becoming a Heavy Duty Mechanic?  Are you eager to learn, adaptable with a strong work ethic?  We are now hiring for a 4th Year Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic for our shop in Grande Prairie.

Come join our team as we provide you with a fantastic, hands on apprenticeship opportunity to learn or grown your skills on a variety of Heavy Equipment from our Aggregates, Underground, Base and Paving divisions.  Our experience staff from our Grande Prairie and Edmonton shops are eager to teach their skills and mentor new and upcoming industry professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with journeymen to safely troubleshoot and perform maintenance on a wide variety of road construction equipment; including highway trucks and trailers, asphalt paving equipment, loaders, skid steers, graders, excavators, dozers, backhoes, stationary and mobile asphalt plants and more!
  • Ensure our equipment is following a preventative maintenance schedule and to maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Participate in company safety meetings and company initiatives.
  • Shop position, with opportunity for occasional field work as required.
  • Must ensure a solid understanding of and comply with the principles of the company's Code of Ethics.
  • Must examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics.
  • Other mechanic and shop duties as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred
  • Registered in Alberta Apprentice program
  • Class 5 Drivers License
  • Provide basic tools

Working Conditions

  • Weekly schedule of Monday to Friday, with some overtime during construction season (May - October) with condensed work week during winter months.
  • Work is performed in an indoor setting which includes standing, bending and kneeling on a regular basis, which could include exposure to dust, fumes, odours or other substances.
  • Work may sometimes be performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat, humidity and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50LBS on a regular basis.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment is required.
  • Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
