Wapiti Gravel Suppliers is currently hiring a Groundsman/ women for its Asphalt Plant for the 2024 Construction Season!
The Groundsman will be responsible for ensuring the plant and its operations structures are in working order, maintaining the mechanical fitness of plant equipment, such as conveyors, burners, motors and gears, feeder bins, drum mixers and other related plant equipment.
Key Responsibilities
• Safely unload hot oil form the delivery trucks.
• Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
• Inspect and grease asphalt conveyors, and ensure equipment is functioning properly.
• Shovel asphalt and other plant materials.
• Responsible for plant production of materials, and ensures the efficient working condition of the plant.
• Ensure the timely delivery of oil, fuel, aggregates and supplies to the plant.
• Assists with stockpiling materials and feed the plant from the stockpiles in an efficient and productive manner.
• Stockpile materials in a manner which reduces segregations, and avoid stockpiling in areas prone to flooding or pooling.
• Use loader or handheld tools to remove excess materials from the Grizzley.
• Operate front end loader, skid steer or other heavy equipment.
• Perform plant maintenance and repairs, including welding tasks.
• Perform set up and take down of plants at different job sites as required.
• Instruct and train new employees on various Groundman/woman duties.
• Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
• Must examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics.
• Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications | Requirements
• High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred
• Minimum 2 to 3 years’ experience within the road construction industry
• 1 to 2 years as an Asphalt Plant Labourer, is an asset.
• Basic knowledge of mechanics and equipment repair.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to work at heights
Working Conditions
• Weather dependent schedule of Monday to Saturday, consisting of up to 13 hours. Overtime is paid in accordance with local employment standards legislation.
• Out of town travel may be required, accommodations and Live Out Allowance may be applicable.
• Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
• Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
• Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
• Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
