Cumberland Paving and Contracting is part of Miller Paving Atlantic, based in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Cumberland Paving and Contracting provides the public and private sectors with road construction, paving, road and structure rehabilitation, engineering construction, aggregate-based materials, highway operations, and maintenance services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 years’ experience in paving, grade prep or other related activities
  • Lead hand/supervisory experience with strong leadership skills
  • Must be available to work 55 hours per week. Available to work extended hours and weekends, when required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanically inclined

Day in the Life

As a Construction Foreperson, your primary responsibility is to oversee the Grade Prep crew, ensuring proper preparation of construction sites before building begins. This involves supervising grading crews and coordinating their activities to ensure the site is properly graded and levelled. Attention to detail will be imperative in this role to ensure all products are the highest quality standard and meets all specifications. Strong communication skills will be essential as you manage client relationships in a professional and productive manner. Administrative duties will include tracking the quantities for production and payment, reviewing documents, and ensuring overall accuracy and completion of tasks.

Most importantly, you will lead by example, providing leadership and support to the grade prep crew. Safety will always be your number one priority as you will regularly conduct “tail gate” safety talks with staff to review policies and procedures, ensuring safety practices are followed by the crew.
