Cumberland Paving and Contracting is part of Miller Paving Atlantic, based in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Cumberland Paving and Contracting provides the public and private sectors with road construction, paving, road and structure rehabilitation, engineering construction, aggregate-based materials, highway operations, and maintenance services

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1-2 years experience operating heavy equipment, especially backhoes
  • Preferred Class 3 or Class 5 License 

  • Good understanding of job site safety and machinery operation.
  • Ability to travel with the crew throughout the local area

Day in the Life

Calling all heavy equipment operators for a seasonal role! You’ll be the powerhouse behind the controls and will be responsible for performing a variety of excavation tasks to support construction activities. Key duties include trenching, ditch digging, and sub-grade excavating to prepare sites for construction. The backhoe operator also performs backfilling, material handling, and stock piling to manage and relocate materials as needed on site. Precision work such as fine grading and finishing, rough grading, and sloping ensures the terrain meets project specifications. Conducting pre-operational checks on equipment, completing maintenance records, and daily equipment logs will also all be crucial to the job.
