POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

TITLE: AGGREGATE MANAGER - RECLAMATION DEPARTMENT: UNITED ROCK PRODUCTS

DATE: DECEMBER 2018 FLSA: EXEMPT

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Aggregate Manager - Reclamation is a key member of the United Rock Products (URP) Management Team.  This position is primarily responsible for the operational management of URP’s recycle processing and reclamation activities in the Irwindale Area. The main duties include optimizing recycling and reclamation activities through proper planning, minimizing downtime through proper maintenance practices, managing costs and providing strong leadership to crews with a strong emphasis on safety, quality and environmental compliance.

 

Additionally, this position will "partner" with the Aggregate Plant Manager and Aggregate Sales Manager to achieve both short and longer-term objectives to ensure the long term success of the business.  This position works closely with other departments including sales, finance, environmental, safety and human resources to ensure that recycle and reclamation activities meet governmental, legal, shareholder and corporate expectations.

 

This position will manage capital and other projects to predetermined budgets as well as establish and manage business to Key Performance Indicators including plant availability, man-hour metrics, plant throughput / productivity and product quality parameters.

 

This position is also responsible for the morale and attitude of the crews; it is the responsibility of the Aggregate Manager - Reclamation to engage the crew and provide effective communications to improve safety performance, productivity and create an overall positive work experience for the members of the plant team.

 

This position, along with the other managers of the URP management team, will represent the company with customers, government officials and in the community.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Ensures all aspects of his/her role are executed in a safe manner.  Ensures vehicle is operated and maintained according to best practices.  Obeys safety guidelines when on construction sites and operations. Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.   

Develop reclamation site (internal roads) to ensure safe access for customer trucks

Develop and manage urban recycling plant to utilize import rubble (concrete and asphalt) to produce products including, but not limited to, CMB, ¾" crushed concrete: 2", ¾", ½" 3/8", -3/16"

Assists in the formulation of recycle and reclamation strategies and executes the strategies as defined.

Identifies and understands current and unmet needs for existing and potential recycle and reclamation customers and translates them into operational opportunities. 

Train, coach, mentor and support members of the recycle and reclamation team.

Direct, coach and develop all personal while ensuring company policy compliance

Ensure sites have all needed documentation to be compliant with state, local, federal and company requirements

Actively participate in operations and capital budgeting

Manage site and project costs to ensure budgets are met

Optimize site development to minimize double handling of import

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE EDUCATION & SKILLS REQUIRED:

Strong customer focus, financial acumen and negotiating skills

Knowledge of materials and material production processes

Knowledge of reclamation specifications and applications

Ability to solve problems by analysis and evaluation of situation

Strong computer skills – working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word programs

Minimum 10 years’ construction materials and / or earthmoving industry experience

Strong interpersonal skills to meet new people and establish relationships with them

Strong communicate skills – written and verbal

Effective communicator to deal with a diverse group of people both internally and externally

Results oriented strong work ethic

Audit and manage plant quality and productivity

Coordinate inventory with the sales department on external and internal sales

Plan, organize, and direct daily work schedules

Monitor and approve time cards

Assist in hiring and training of manpower in compliance with Company policy and MSHA.

Prepare monthly/quarterly reports as required

Monitor equipment utilization

Solve problems associated with manpower and materials including delegation of responsibility

Monitor plant safety programs

Ability to forecast and react quickly to changes in market conditions

Coordinate with contractors, sub-contractors, consultants, agencies and vendors

Complete accurate production forecasts and budgets
