Compensation

$30.42 per hour

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Scale Clerk is to legally weigh and ticket customer trucks leaving the facility. The Scale Clerks also provide additional customer service duties including, but not limited to quoting, inputting orders into JWS, accepting orders, scheduling haulers (on FOB orders), communicating with haulers on stockpile locations or loading and dumping area and ensuring compliant loads are accurately ticketed for our customers. The Scale Clerks are also responsible for communicating customer needs and following up on customer complaints.  As a member of the team, the Scale Clerks may be required to assist with ensuring that loadout facilities are inspected, cleaned and maintained to a safe standard while ensuring customer satisfaction. While the Scale Clerks work under the direction of the Foreman who reports directly to the Site Manager, this role also has dotted line responsibility to the Sales Manager. The length of assignment for this role is temporary.

Main Responsibilities

  • Accept orders from customers and enter them into JWS
  • Assist with customer complaint logging and corrective actions
  • Assist with maintenance and housekeeping in loadout tower and loadout tunnels
  • Communicate with loader operators to ensure acceptable truck turnaround time
  • Complete Daily shift inspections - report as needed to Foreman or Site Manager
  • Complete Environmental compliance reports - as requested
  • Confirm correct material is loaded into truck
  • Correctly ticket customers for all loads
  • Ensure areas under your scope of responsibility remain in environmental compliance
  • Ensure daily that all truck scales are operating properly
  • Ensure operations is aware of upcoming sales demands on blended and specialty products
  • Ensure site remains compliant with all MSHA, CALOSHA and EPA standards
  • Load customer trucks from bunkers or direct trucks to proper stockpile location
  • Maintain adequate cleanliness of work location
  • Minimize daily voids
  • Minimize overloading of trucks and remaining complaint with DOT weight restrictions
  • Other duties as outlined by Site Manager and Sales Manager

Education and/or Work Experience

  • 2 years previous scale clerk experience or equivalent preferred
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive company vehicle

Skills

  • Ability to understand and follow Company Handbook and Safety Policies
  • Ability to work well and communicate with others
  • Knowledge of California DOT Hauler regulations preferred
  • Must be able to follow oral and written plans and directions
  • Strong computer skills with preference given to employees with JWS knowledge preferred
  • Strong Customer Service skills required
  • Strong, team-oriented work ethic with strong focus on safety and environmental compliance
  • Understands MSHA and CALOSHA regulations
  • Willingness to learn and use web-based systems such as Mobile Sales for quoting 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to utilize hands and fingers in order to type and carry reports should the need require
  • Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands throughout the workday should the need arise
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch should the need arise
  • Ability to sit for a long period of time, possibly more than 90% of the workday
  • Ability to see clearly or with assistance via necessary correction
