We are seeking a detail‑oriented and motivated QA/QC Technician to join our Barrett Paving Materials – New York Central team in Jamesville, NY. This entry‑level position supports our Quality Control department by conducting laboratory and field testing on hot mix asphalt and aggregates to ensure compliance with federal, state, and customer specifications.
The role works closely with asphalt plant personnel, construction teams, and governmental agencies and reports directly to the QC/QA Manager.
Compensation
$23.00 - $30.00
Main Responsibilities

Perform sampling and laboratory testing on hot mix asphalt and aggregates

Record test results, maintain logs, and prepare basic test reports

Assist with equipment maintenance, calibration, and lab supply inventory

Support field monitoring to ensure compliance with specifications

Communicate findings to plant personnel, construction teams, agencies, and customers

Complete required reports for governmental and customer specifications

Perform additional duties as assigned
Skills
- Knowledge of hot mix asphalt quality control data
- Experience with lab equipment such as gyratory compactors, sieves, TMD apparatus, ignition furnace
- Familiarity with paving processes and construction material standards
- Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze numerical data
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong organizational and communication skills

- Extensive standing and walking
- Climbing stairs and ladders as needed
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs
- Ability to work near mechanical equipment and heating devices (hot plates, propane burners, ignition ovens, etc.)
- Ability to work in an active construction, industrial, or quarry environment
