Job Summary
This is a Union Position
Controls movement of vehicular traffic through construction projects while ensuring the safety of the traveling public and crew.
Main Responsibilities:
- Discuss traffic routing plans, type and location of control points with superior.
- Distribute traffic control signs and markers along site in designated pattern.
- Direct movement of traffic through site, using, signs, hands and flag signals.
- Warn crew when approaching vehicle fails to heed signals to prevent accident and injury to workers.
- Inform drivers of detour routes through construction sites.
- Give hand marker to last driver in line up of one-way traffic for flagger at opposite end of site, signaling clearance for reverse flow of traffic.
- Work in a team-oriented environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to assist the crew.
- Must be able to understand specifications and instructions, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge of and strict adherence to safety regulations.
- Wear all proper personal protective equipment.
- Must be able to work overtime including Saturdays and Sundays. Typical weekly work hours can meet or exceed 60 hours.
Skills:
- MSHA Certification.
- OSHA 10 hr Certification.
- CPR/First Aid Certification desired.
- Flagging Certificate required.
- May occasionally operate pilot car at construction site.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to pass drug screening and a PAT (physical abilities test).
- Exert force of 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds constantly.
- Regularly required to communicate on a radio (talk and hear).
- Standing/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain.
- Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles.
