Miller Maintenance proudly provides maintenance services on Maintenance Contracts for Ontario Ministry of Transportation throughout the province of Ontario. Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of supervisory experience with demonstrated knowledge of building a strong, dynamic, highly functional team
  • Sound financial knowledge of accrual accounting and budgeting
  • Thorough knowledge of the applicable OH&S legislations and MTO specifications
  • Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Ability to work the maintenance schedule which may include weekends and/or night shift
  • Must maintain a valid Class G Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the highway maintenance and/or road construction industry including significant budgetary and supervisory responsibility
  • Knowledge of OTM Book 7 traffic control
  • DZ license

Day in the life

As a Highway Maintenance Supervisor, you will ensure that all performance requirements on the Maintenance Contract (CDMC) are met. This includes optimizing allocation of resources (people and equipment) across all operations to enhance efficiency and utilization as well as control costs; developing and maintaining favourable relationships with customer (MTO) reps as you participate in quoting, bids, and tenders; providing day to day coaching and allocating tasks to Patrol Supervisors; assisting the Project Manager to ensure the team has the resources and training required to fulfill the contract.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants in compliance with Miller Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) polices and ensure contractual HSE obligation for the staff and public are met
  • Overall supervision of the operations within the contract, including managing the Patrol Supervisors and administration staff
  • Monitor costs and understand cost allocation across different performance requirements of the contract and identify ways to control costs
  • Thoroughly understand the performance requirements of the contract and all deliverables, educating and supporting Patrol Supervisors to plan and prioritize the work
  • Build and maintain a strong functional team through instruction, training, coaching and team building
  • Ensure work completed meets quality standards, oversee daily production records and report on work in progress, ensure preparation and submittal of required reports, documentation and logs are completed
  • Work with the Patrol Supervisors to track onsite equipment, coordinate repairs and maintenance, and establish equipment needs  
  • Identify and recommend operational efficiencies to enhance the financial performance of the contract
