Job Summary

Do you enjoy working in Southeast Alaska? We are seeking a Mechanic with a positive drive and team spirit! A dedication to hard work, accuracy, and safety are a top priority! The Mechanic will be accountable for diagnosing, servicing, and repairing all makes and models of new and used heavy equipment and vehicles. This position involves working in our shop and our job sites on Prince of Wales Island.

Main Responsibilities

  • Prepares and prioritizes their work: coordinates the operations with project requirements and in a timely manner, orders the parts and supplies required for maintenance.
  • Identifies breakdowns using suitable diagnostic tools and testing. Perform major repairs on dump trucks, mixer trucks, tractors, trailers, excavators, loaders, crushers, generators, etc, along with some electrical work.
  • Conduct annual DOT inspections on equipment and follow DOT guidelines to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Basic welding skills.
  • Proficient in CAT ET, Volvo tech tool, JD Link, and Cummins insight
  • Basic computer knowledge required for upkeep of logs and daily reports with experience in Microsoft programs like excel and teams.

Education

  • College / University / Trade School or Equal experience in a relevant field.
  • Professional Certifications (if applicable) to demonstrate expertise.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand/work on feet for long periods, walk on uneven terrain, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, see, and hear with frequent exposure to loud noise. Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles.
  • Occasionally lift and move 50 pounds or greater
  • Required to pass pre-employment drug screening as well as a PAT (Physical Ability Test) prior to starting work.
  • Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Must have own tools.
  • A valid Class B CDL with a clean driving record is required. We encourage candidates to pursue a Class A CDL and/or Hazmat endorsement after joining the company to broaden their capabilities and explore further opportunities.

Misc

  • Previous experience in road construction and/or a shop setting is preferred to ensure a smooth transition into the role.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification desired but not required, though an adherence to safety is important
  • Temporary housing available.
