Mechanic
Do you enjoy working in Southeast Alaska? We are looking for either a Lead Mechanic or Mechanic with a positive drive and team spirit! A dedication to hard work, accuracy, and safety are a top priority! The position will be accountable for diagnosing, servicing, and repairing all makes and models of new and used heavy equipment and vehicles. This position involves working in our shop and our job sites on Prince of Wales Island (POW).
Mechanic Responsibilities
- Troubleshooting and repairing equipment
- Coordination of maintenance and repairs of equipment with supervisor
- Keeping repair and maintenance records per supervisor and Safety Department’s direction
- Inspecting equipment and tracking equipment repair needs; communicating recommendations on shop repairs to supervisor.
- Aiding with procuring, receiving, and inventorying shop supplies and parts under the direction of supervisor.
- Working with and training apprentice mechanics and service oilers.
- Support organization and maintenance of the shop facilities including organization and compliance with Colas 6S goals along with associated facilities and support infrastructure.
- Promoting safety and regulatory compliances while performing job responsibilities.
- Maintenance of CDL with hazmat endorsement.
- Other duties as assigned.
- This position will report directly to the lead mechanic or POW project manager. This position may require travel to remote sites as needed while supporting POW office managed projects.
Education
- College/University/Trade School or equal experience in relevant field preferred
- Professional certifications as appliable to show experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand/work on feet for extended periods, walk on uneven terrain, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, see, and hear with frequent exposure to loud noise. Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles.
- Occasionally lift and move 50 pounds or greater.
- Required to pass pre-employment drug screening as well as a PAT (physical Ability Test) prior to starting work.
- Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Must have own tools.
Miscellaneous
- Previous experience in road construction and/or a shop setting preferred to ensure a smooth transition into the role.
- CPR and 1st Aid Certification preferred.
- Temporary housing available.
