We are looking for someone who operates in a highly professional, ethical and competitive fast paced environment for our current opening as a Shop Mechanic.

 

Requirements:

 

  • The Shop mechanic is responsible for maintenance and repairs to various pieces of construction equipment.
  • To insure that all equipment is operating with all safety equipment in place and operable.
  • To insure that all equipment is operating within complete compliance of all environmental regulations relative to maintenance.
  • To  insure that all maintenance operations being performed and/or observed are performed meeting the highest level of safety.
  • Can perform work on equipment without direct supervision.
  • Able to troubleshoot and repair various issues involved in mobile equipment.
  • Will assist in data collecting for maintenance databases.
  • Has ability to research issues to find a solution.
  • Has knowledge and experience of heavy equipment repairs.  Also the ability to work on various types of on and off road pieces.
  • Communicate openly with the location Superintendents as well as location staff while maintaining the organization chain of command through the respective manager.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Road tests, inspects and troubleshoots on road and off road equipment to assess the condition and diagnose repairs
  • Fabricates special parts and up fits new equipment
  • Adjusts, repairs, replaces and/or rebuilds carburetors and fuel injection systems
  • Installs, troubleshoots, adjusts, replaces, repairs and requires electrical systems and components such as ignitions, signals, lights and electrical controls,including computer controlled components
  • Repairs and rebuilds hydraulic and pneumatic apparatus
  • Adjusts, disassembles and repairs or rebuilds drum and disc braking systems, valves, master cylinders, and pneumatic or other hydraulic controls
  • Completes tire breakdown and replacement
  • Repairs and replaces suspension and steering components
  • Adjusts and/or repairs automatic and manual transmissions,differentials, power-take-off drives, clutches, and related drive train components,
  • Uses welding and cutting equipment to make repairs or modify equipment
  • Assists other technicians with jobs requiring more than one person
  • Orders materials and supplies required for maintenance and repair work
  • Keeps records of work performed, time and materials used by job
  • Performs on-site field repairs to stationary or disabled equipment
  • Performs repairs to disabled equipment on job sites or road sides
  • Ensures equipment is up to DOT specifications
  • Completes oil sampling
  • Completes preventative maintenance
  • Perform heavy repair of vehicles and equipment by troubleshooting shooting malfunctions and determining repairs needed
  • Complete maintenance and repair logs
  • Communicate with shop employees, paving crew members, construction crew members, foremen, general superintendents, shop manager and others as needed.
  • Maintain and secure work tools
  • Clean and maintain work area
  • Turn off and lock equipment when not in use
  • Report to field to perform mechanic duties as needed
  • Additional duties as assigned

 

Education and Minimum Experience: 

 

  • Valid CDL B driver’s license
  • Associates degree within Diesel or Heavy Equipment field or two years’ experience in the industry.
  • Solid knowledge of Diesel and Heavy Equipment mechanics, HD Truck & Hydraulic Systems.

  • Aptitude for hands-on work.

  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Responsible, reliable and dependable

 

Working Conditions:

Most of the Heavy Truck Mechanic work will be performed within a heated building on a concrete floor.  There may be some opportunity to do some work at the job sites.  The Mechanic is on their feet for most of the day performing lifting operations, performing tasks while using hand tools, peumatic tools, lifts, carts, welding equipment, ladders and other tools/machinery as needed.
