Job Summary
The Assistant QC/QA Director supports the QC Director in the coordination, planning, and supervision of the contract/project quality management system to ensure contracts and projects meet or exceed established quality control standards and customer specifications. This role assists with managerial oversight of QA/QC activities involving company employees, subcontractors, and vendors, including quality records verification, documentation, lab operations, non-destructive testing, and adherence to applicable codes and standards. The Assistant QC/QA Director aids in implementing the Quality policy across the organization in alignment with Colas USA’s values.
Main Responsibilities
- Champion the Company’s safety culture by actively supporting safety initiatives and adhering to safety protocols established by Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
 - Support and promote the Company’s core values, vision, mission, code of ethics, workplace conduct, and established policies
 - Assist in mentoring, coaching, and development of QC teams within the organization
 - Serve as a key resource and subject matter expert on quality control specifications and principles to support Quality leadership
 - Assist in the development and implementation of quality initiatives focused on continuous improvement
 - Help ensure quality control operations conform to company policies, regulatory agency guidelines, and compliance standards
 - Help maintain effective communications channels and foster collaboration across departments and regions to promote quality objectives
 - Collaborate with cross-functional and regional teams to maintain quality and reliability standards based on product, engineering, and customer requirements
 - Support operations to prioritize quality control efforts while managing cost control and waste reduction initiatives
 - Coordinate with external laboratories and third parties involved in testing and quality compliance as directed by QC leadership
 - Collect, analyze, and present quality data to identify trends and recommend corrective actions to management
 - Assist as a liaison with federal, state, and local agencies on quality-related matters under the guidance of the QC Technical Director
 - Participate in project work and special assignments to advance organizational goals and quality initiatives
 
Skills And Experience
- 5+ years of technical quality control experience, with some leadership or supervisory responsibilities preferred
 - Knowledge of material testing standards and specifications governed by federal, state, and local agencies including DOT, ASTM, and AASHTO
 - Understanding of construction processes and materials production such as asphalt and ready-mix concrete
 - Proficient with QA/QC testing equipment, quality metrics, and data analysis
 - Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact at all organizational levels
 - Demonstrated ability to assist with developing and training QHSE or QC personnel
 - Detail-oriented with solid critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
 - Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and Excel
 - Self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision
 
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in quality management, engineering, business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
 - ACI and DOT testing certifications preferred; advanced certifications a plus
 - Valid driver’s license with the ability to maintain a clean driving record
