MacDonald Paving and Construction, a division of Miller Paving Limited is looking for candidates interested in joining a dynamic team to learn and build a career in the field of construction inspection and materials testing. Our ideal candidate will have strong initiative to perform routine inspection and sampling of construction materials both asphalt and aggregate in the field and occasionally laboratory, in order to verify conformance to construction plans and specifications. The Technician will prepare daily reports, data sheets, material sampling, and inspection during the placement of materials; predominately in Asphalt operations. The Technician may be called upon to perform various tasks at the discretion of the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Class 5 driver’s license, clean abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Ability to lift 50lbs and work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Proficient in MS Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education focused on civil engineering or related technical field
  • Technical knowledge of aggregate and asphalt quality. CCIL Type C certification and quarry experience
  • CSA or ACI concrete testing certification

Day in the Life

 

As a Quality Control Road Technician, you will become an expert is asphalt, aggregate, and concrete, conducting regular laboratory and field tests to ensure all products are in compliance with standards and procedures. It will be important to ensure that measuring equipment is calibrated and all material is properly tested and examined as all discrepancies must be accurately reported. You will have the opportunity to visit multiple sites in the area, developing a full understanding of what goes into our roads to maintain the highest quality products.
