Mission

The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of health and safety are maintained throughout the asset maintenance and management business. The Health and Safety Manager will implement, monitor, and improve health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and organisational requirements. This position requires strong leadership and an ability to develop and maintain a health and safety culture within the company. Direct reporting line to the MMaRC General Manager, with a Functional reporting line to the Colas Ireland Health and Safety Manager. The Health and Safety Manager will work closely with the Colas Ireland Health and Safety Manager to contribute to the development of Group Health & Safety policies and ensure their effective implementation at all Colas JV work sites.

Main Responsibilities

 

  • Provides advice, guidance and instruction on all safety matters to all persons working in the Company, including employees, Sub-contractors, Suppliers and Visitors to the network.
  • Prepares, agrees with Directors and installs a Safety Statement and ensures compliance with stated Safety Policy and Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Liaises with all Company Management Sections and engages all personnel in a united effort in accident prevention and ensuring healthy working conditions.
  • Order work to stop if of the opinion that, any activities represent a serious risk of personal injury to persons in that area.
  • Completes Project Safety Inspections on projects in liaison with Project Management, recommends improvement and reports to the General Manager & Projects Manager.
  • Ensures that full co-operation is given to all Safety Representatives that are elected and that adequate time and training is provided for discharge of their duties.
  • Ensures Project Specific Safety & Health Plans are developed for individual projects where required and recommends relevant procedures and personal protective equipment.
  • Reviews or follows up where necessary on Inspection Reports, Health and Safety suggestions, complaints and requests for information.
  • Carries out Investigations to establish cause of accident, incident or dangerous occurrence and recommends for future avoidance.
  • Arranges for training of employees at all levels.
  • Assists in on-going training of employees as requested.
  • Acquires and distributes Safety, Health and Welfare publications, literature and materials.
  • Arranges for the regular active monitoring of the implementation of health and safety policies and procedures such that the key health and safety objectives of the project can be achieved, maintained and improved upon.

Experience

  • At least 8 years proven experience in health and safety management, with experience leading a team preferred
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices, particularly in roadworks construction, traffic management, asset maintenance and management

Qualifications

  • A level eight qualification recognised by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETEC) in Health & Safety, or other equivalent professional qualification
  • Membership of recognised industry body (IOSH or similar)
