Scale Operator 

Job Summary:  It is the primary responsibility of the Scale Operator to monitor, records, and report the volume and type of material that leaves the pit on each truck. Maintain scale houses and scale equipment. Monitor and report up to date pit inventories to management. Greet customers, answer customer inquiries, notify pit personnel when customers enter the facilities, and distribute safety information and special event flyers.

Description of Responsibilities: 

Key Responsibilities

• Record customer information and vehicle tare weights  and process daily scale transactions and generate necessary scale ticket information 
• Maintain pit inventories records and produce material reports for management
• Supervise and update information in JWS / automated scale weighing systems.
• Monitor traffic and inform pit personnel when clientele enter the facility
• Maintain pit scale facilities and scale equipment and update them as needed
• General clerical duties included: daily deliver of scale tickets to main office, answering customer questions, and distributing flyers & other documents to customers and employees.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Qualifications: 

Must be self-motivated and exercise strong time management skills as well as the ability to prioritize critical tasks and able to work with minimal direction. Strong customer service skills. Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Must display strong written and oral communication skills and employ effective listening skills. Exhibit regular and prompt attendance. Ability to perform tasks outside defined job description, if necessary.

Education/Experience: 

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Computer Skills: 

Basic computer knowledge including knowledge of MS Word, Excel, email, and internet applications. Previous experience with JWS systems and software is preferred. Ability to learn new software as required. 

Language Skills:

Ability to effectively present written or oral information to individuals and to respond to questions from managers, superintendents, employees, customers and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: 

It is necessary to be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  

Reasoning Ability: 

High degree of reasoning ability and problem-solving skills.  Flexible in adapting to changing needs, detail oriented and adept at analytical problem solving.  Demonstrate independence in problem solving and be able to quickly analyze, compare, and interpret detailed and sometimes poorly defined information, and be able to make sound and accurate judgments based on best available information.
