Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Quality Control Manager and Senior Technicians, the Trainee will learn to perform concrete and aggregate material testing to ensure adherence to federal, state, and customer specifications. This entry-level role is designed to train the individual in laboratory inventory, QC sampling, testing procedures, data entry, and other laboratory responsibilities with the goal of becoming a fully qualified Technician.
Main Responsibilities
- Actively participate in training to learn the basic specifications, principles, and products associated with the construction, aggregate, and concrete industries.
- Assist Senior Technicians in inspecting products for quality and performing routine tests on concrete and aggregates.
- Learn to properly collect samples from various production points in accordance with safety and quality standards.
- Maintain the laboratory in a neat, clean, and professional order, ensuring equipment is cleaned and stored properly after use.
- Work toward obtaining necessary industry certifications and qualifications (e.g., ACI, WAQTC) through provided seminars, meetings, and hands-on testing.
- Follow all quality control activities in conformance with company policies, regulatory agencies, and safety protocols.
- Assist in recording test results daily to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Report any observed irregularities or potential quality issues to the immediate supervisor for review.
Skills & Qualifications
- No prior experience required; previous exposure to construction, manufacturing, or general labor is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) and the ability to learn internal software systems.
- Strong ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
- Proven ability to work well with others in a team environment.
- Responsible, reliable, and dependable with a strong willingness to learn.
- Ability to work effectively under direct supervision and accept constructive feedback.
Physical Requirements
- Must pass Pre-Employment drug test and Pre-Employment physical abilities test. NOTE: All employees are entered into random drug testing pool upon hire.
- Able to lift or move up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
- Able to stand, walk, sit, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for extended periods.
