Railway OCS Worker (Overhead Catenary System)
Mission
The OCS Worker is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the Overhead Contact System (OCS) and all related infrastructure to ensure reliable and safe power supply for railway operations. This role involves performing manual and technical tasks in accordance with safety standards, engineering specifications, and project requirements.
Beyond catenary works, the OCS Worker may also be assigned to execute other tasks under the OCS department’s scope, such as earthing, cable containment, small civil or electrical installations, and other associated works required for the proper completion of the OCS system.
The OCS Worker collaborates with team members and supervisors to support the timely completion of OCS-related activities, contributing to the overall performance, safety, and success of rail projects.
Main Responsibilities
- • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the Overhead Contact System (OCS) and related electrical or structural components
• Handle and operate hand tools, lifting equipment, and machinery used for OCS and associated works safely and effectively
• Install and adjust catenary components such as masts, brackets, droppers, contact wires, and feeders in accordance with design specifications
• Perform earthing, bonding, and cable containment works as part of the OCS department’s scope
• Support small civil or electrical works related to the OCS system (e.g., foundation preparation, conduit installation, or equipment mounting)
• Inspect OCS components and report any defects, deviations, or damage to supervisors
• Ensure proper alignment, tension, and stability of OCS components during installation and maintenance
• Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
• Collaborate with team members to complete OCS-related tasks within project timelines
• Assist in loading, unloading, and transporting materials and equipment on-site
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and materials
• Report any incidents, hazards, or safety concerns immediately to supervisors
Profile
- Experience in OCS (Overhead Contact System) installation, maintenance, or other electrical or structural works
- Familiarity with tools, equipment, and machinery used for OCS activities (e.g., tensioning devices, cable pullers, hydraulic crimpers, torque wrenches)
- Basic knowledge of OCS components such as masts, cantilevers, droppers, contact and messenger wires, feeders, and insulators
- Understanding of OCS safety standards (working with tensioned wires, work at height etc…), signage, and worksite procedures
- Ability to identify defects and report them accurately to supervisors
- Experience working in outdoor environments and in varied weather conditions
- Ability to work effectively in a team and follow instructions from supervisors
- Basic mechanical or construction knowledge is an advantage
- Knowledge of manual handling and proper lifting techniques
- Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, or extended hours as required by project schedules
