Railway Track Worker
Mission
The Tracks Worker is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of railway tracks and related infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient rail operations. This role involves performing manual and technical tasks in accordance with safety standards, engineering specifications, and project requirements. The Tracks Worker collaborates with team members and supervisors to support the timely completion of track-related activities, contributing to the overall success and safety of rail projects.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist in the construction, maintenance, and repair of railway tracks and related infrastructure
- Handle and operate hand tools and machinery used for track work safely and effectively
- Inspect tracks and track components for defects or damage and report findings to supervisors
- Remove and replace worn or damaged rails, sleepers (ties), and fasteners
- Ensure proper alignment, leveling, and stability of tracks during installation and maintenance
- Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
- Collaborate with team members to complete tasks within project timelines
- Assist in loading, unloading, and transporting materials and equipment on-site
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and tools
Report any incidents, hazards, or safety concerns immediately to supervisors
Desired Knowledge / Experience
- Experience in railway track maintenance, construction, or a related field
- Familiarity with tools, equipment, and machinery used in track work (e.g., tampers, rail saws, grinders)
- Basic knowledge of rail track components such as rails, sleepers, fasteners, and ballast
- Understanding of railway safety standards, signage, and worksite procedures
- Ability to identify track defects and report them accurately to supervisors
- Experience working in outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work effectively in a team and follow instructions from supervisors
- Basic mechanical or construction knowledge is an advantage
- Knowledge of manual handling and proper lifting techniques
- Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, or extended hours as required by project schedules
