Position Summary
Terus Construction, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc., is seeking a Operations Superintendent to join our team in Prince George, BC.
Reporting to the Regional Construction Manager, the Operations Superintendent will be responsible for on-site execution of projects from start to finish, acting as the main point of contact. The individual will manage subcontractors and field crews, maintain schedules, ensure site safety, uphold the quality of work, and ensure that the required resources are available to complete the work within specifications and budget. The role also involves building and maintaining relationships based on trust and respect with their direct and indirect reports, subcontractors, clients, consultants, and other regions within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Safety and Compliance
• Demonstrate commitment to Terus-CWCI health, safety, and environment policies by adhering to these policies and promoting a culture of safety in all activities conducted.
• Ensure that all required safety reporting is completed and forwarded to the safety department in a timely manner, as per regulation and policy guidelines.
• Ensure completeness of site Hazard Assessments and adherence to Fatigue Management protocols.
• Conduct regular formal site inspections in accordance with company policy.
• Maintain up-to-date utility locates to ensure the site is ready for company personnel.
• Uphold and comply with the Terus Code of Ethics.
Operations Management
• Responsible for the implementation and operation of projects, including initial mobilization and setup of construction sites.
• Responsible for organizing and directing all crews in the construction of roads and paving projects.
• Responsible for ensuring that all work is completed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards.
• Assist in managing and coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure they meet project requirements and deliverables.
• Responsible for accurate and current records of project activities, including daily logs, progress reports, and documentation of any changes or deviations from the project plan.
• Regularly communicate with project stakeholders, providing updates on project status, milestones, and any issues or concerns that could impact project delivery.
• Regularly visit and inspect sites to ensure work quality, safety standards, and project timelines are being met.
• Responsible for communicating work schedules, equipment, and manpower with Foreperson.
• Responsible for monitoring and reporting material yields, labour and direct costs.
• Responsible for examining daily timesheets, purchase orders, and costing reports for accuracy and completeness.
• Assist in the implementation and development of new business strategies for improving processes and procedures.
• Assist in troubleshooting project concerns such as scheduling conflicts or quality control issues.
Team and Operational Leadership

• Lead and manage a team of direct and indirect reports and provide them with operational guidance.
• Responsible for recruiting, training, directing, supervising, mentoring, and disciplining of 1-5 employees.

• Monitor and enforce compliance with collective bargaining agreements, ensuring all terms are met and addressing any issues promptly.
• Provide constructive feedback, demonstrate desired skills, and uphold work ethics.
• Make informed decisions, considering input from team members.
Experience and Knowledge Required for the Role
• High school diploma or G.E.D/CAEC preferred
• Minimum 15 years experience within the road construction industry
• Knowledge of road construction methods, road construction materials and industry requirements.
• Capable of reading and understanding construction drawings, specifications and contract documents
• Knowledge of construction equipment, materials and processes
• Beginner to intermediate Microsoft Office skills in Excel, Word, Project, Outlook
• Intermediate computer skills
• Comprehensive mathematical skills
• Knowledge of union collective agreement and company policies and procedures
• Valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract

• Willing to work overtime (may include weekends) during the busy season (April to October) and on call as necessary.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000CAD annually. The final compensation package will be determined based on factors including the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience
