Job Summary
The project superintendent will oversee day to day operations on heavy civil construction projects in accordance with contract requirements ensuring the project’s objectives related to safety, schedule, budget, and quality are satisfied. The ideal candidate must have experience with large project operation management as they will play a pivotal role in the project and organizational success as a frontline manager. This role is located on Prince of Wales Island.
Main Responsibilities
- Directly supervise all day-to-day aspects of heavy civil construction operations in the field.
- Manage and develop a project team potentially consisting of, but not limited to, project engineers, crew leads, surveyors, operators, laborers, mechanics, and drivers.
- Establish collaborative relationships with the project owner’s representatives, subcontractors, professional service providers, utility owners, and other project stakeholders during the pursuit of project objectives.
- Promote company safety policies through communication and established procedures on the project while committing to a culture of safety.
- Ensure the project is completed to quality standards established by the plans and specifications.
- Oversee development and maintenance of the project schedule, monitor and evaluate cost performance records, control scope and ensure change orders or interim work authorizations are in place for out-of-scope work.
- Travel and work at remote sites within Southeast Alaska communities may be required.
- Must be able to work Saturdays and Sundays. Typical weekly work hours can meet or exceed 60 hours.
- Develop and mentor direct reports.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret plans, specifications, external and internal policies/guidelines/regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and effectively present information to large groups and interact with managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Basic computer knowledge including knowledge of email, Power point, MS Word, Excel, and internet applications. Ability to learn corporate programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related education and 5-7 years of proven ability OR 10 years of progressively proven ability in management of large projects and Department of Transportation/Western Federal Lands experience.
- Driver’s License
- CPR/First aid certification preferred.
- MSHA certification.
- OSHA 10-hour certification.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to pass drug screening and a PAT (physical abilities test).
- Exert force of 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds constantly.
