Lifting Engineer
Mission
The purpose of the job of a Lifting Engineer at Colas Rail Philippines Inc. is to plan, manage, and oversee all lifting operations involved in rail construction and maintenance projects, ensuring they are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards and regulations. This role involves designing lifting plans, conducting risk assessments, coordinating with site teams, supervising lifts, and ensuring that all lifting equipment is properly inspected and maintained to prevent accidents and damage, ultimately supporting the successful and safe execution of project activities.
Main Responsibilities
Includes but not limited to the following:
• Develop and prepare detailed lifting plans and procedures for rail construction projects
• Conduct risk assessments and identify hazards related to lifting operations
• Select and specify appropriate lifting equipment and accessories based on load requirements
• Coordinate lifting activities with site teams, contractors, and other stakeholders
• Supervise and monitor lifting operations to ensure compliance with safety standards and project specifications
• Inspect lifting equipment regularly to verify safety and functionality
• Ensure all lifting gear is certified and meets regulatory requirements
• Provide technical guidance and support to the lifting team and other site personnel
• Report and document all lifting activities, inspections, and any incidents or near misses
• Train and educate personnel on safe lifting practices and emergency procedures
• Collaborate with project managers and engineers to resolve any lifting-related issues
• Stay updated with industry regulations, standards, and best practices related to lifting operations
Profile
Educational Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering field
• Relevant certifications in lifting operations, rigging, or crane operation (e.g., LEEA certification) preferred
• Training or certification in health and safety management or construction safety (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA) advantageous
• Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to lifting and rigging
• Continuous professional development or specialized courses related to lifting engineering and project management
Desired Knowledge / Experience
• Proven experience in planning and executing lifting operations in construction or rail infrastructure projects
• Strong understanding of lifting equipment, rigging techniques, and load calculations
• Knowledge of relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards
• Experience conducting risk assessments and hazard analyses for lifting activities
• Familiarity with inspection and certification processes for lifting gear and machinery
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
• Experience working with multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating site operations
• Practical knowledge of crane operations, lifting accessories, and mechanical equipment
• Competence in using lifting software or engineering tools for load and lift planning
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage emergency situations related to lifting
• Good communication skills to effectively liaise with contractors, site personnel, and management
