Job Summary:
The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for daily oversight of activities related to testing and inspection of all aggregate products, supporting effective quality control procedures and systems, training and developing staff, and promoting effective coordination of quality control activities with manufacturing, sales and operations teams.
Position can also be based out of Sterling, Colorado.
Main Responsibilities:
• Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
• Support, promote, and practice the Company’s core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
• Direct daily work assignments and monitor/manage performance of QC team
• Provide mentoring, coaching, and training support to staff
• Act as a subject matter expert regarding quality control specifications and principles
• Recommend and assist in implementation of quality initiatives to support continuous improvement
• Communicate across departments to enhance the teamwork essential to consistently producing quality products
• Plan and coordinate quality control activities and establish priorities to support effective operations and cost control, including effective utilization of materials and resources
• Recognize and solve actual and potential problems related to quality control operations
• Inspect products for quality, identify and take corrective action as necessary
• Review and analyze test results to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications
• Coordinate use of external laboratories and third parties involved in testing and quality control compliance
• Ensure all quality control operations and activities are conducted in conformance with company policies, regulatory agency guidance, and compliance standards
• Develop and implement measures to improve methods that support safety service, quality and performance of products
• Operate company vehicle to travel to other offices and work locations as necessary
Education:
• Associates degree in relevant field such as quality management, engineering, business administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• ACI and DOT testing certification required; advanced certifications preferred
• Valid driver's license and ability to maintain clean driving record required
Skills:
• 5+ years of technical quality control experience and/or equivalent combination of training and experience required
• 5+ years of experience in quality control testing of aggregates, asphalt, and ready-mix concrete preferred
• Sound knowledge of applicable material testing standards and specifications governed by federal, state and local testing agencies, including DOT, ASTM, and AASHTO standards
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision and resolve problems and technical issues
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to all levels of employees
• Solid computer skills using a range of programs and applications, including MS Office Products (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams), database/spreadsheet programs, and mobile apps
Physical Requirements:
• Wearing and maintaining personal protective equipment (PPE) required
• Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
• Frequently exposed to all weather conditions
• Regularly required to communicate, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself, exchange information (This position frequently communicates with others regarding safety issues/training or must be able to discern equipment location for safety)
• Regularly required to detect, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, observe, inspect, estimate, assess (must be able to detect moving equipment or must be able to safely inspect work at heights above 10 feet)
• Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Frequently required to stand/work on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
• Work performed indoors and outdoors; noise exposure varies from quiet to loud
• Frequent exposure to working around moving equipment and machinery
• Frequent exposure to dust, airborne particles and chemicals, and all types of weather typical of construction and industrial sites
• Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and manipulate objects, write, use a keyboard and/or mobile device
• Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear), and perform tasks requiring visual acuity
