Job Summary:

  • Operates a variety of heavy equipment, vehicles, and tooling utilized in construction and/or plant production activities. Responsible for scale operations at a commercial aggregate pit/quarry, including weighing trucks, assisting customers, monitoring pit functions, and helping to ensure safety and security of the site.

Main Responsibilities

  • Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
  • Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies 
  • Ensure safety and environmental regulation compliance (MSHA/OSHA, EPA, etc.), including visitor registration, site-specific training, and other safety/security procedures are followed
  • Observe safety procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly
  • Operate heavy equipment, including, but not limited to, loaders, backhoes, skid steers, excavators, and other mobile equipment used in completion of construction projects and/or in support of production operations
  • Monitor visitor registration, and ensure site-specific training and other safety/security procedures are followed
  • Act as internal/external customer main point-of-contact for pit/quarry operations
  • Communicate with customers in person and over the phone regarding product availability and orders
  • Operate scale to weigh trucks for internal and external customers and prepare ticket for driver
  • Maintain accurate records of materials and quantity entering and exiting the facility
  • Coordinate with trucking department regarding delivery and haul schedules
  • Complete purchase orders and maintain vendor relationships for procurement of supplies for site; maintain associated record-keeping
  • Enter necessary information into computer system for inventory, billing and/or time keeping purposes
  • Assist with sales and production reporting; maintain related databases/spreadsheets and produce required reports

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Valid drivers’ license (ability to maintain a clean driving history required)

Skills:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience in operation of heavy equipment operation preferred
  • Ability to work with others in a professional manner
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience compiling and maintaining databases and producing reports using MS Office, which includes Excel, or similar programs preferred
  • Ability to work under pressure of deadlines and problem-solve
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

Physical Requirements:

  • Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Regularly required to use hands to move and manipulate objects
  • Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear) 
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 
  • Standing/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
  • Regularly required to work from a seated position operating equipment for long periods
  • Frequent exposure to loud noise 
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration
  • Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles
  • Regularly exposed to fuel, oil, and other chemicals
  • Occasionally exposed to working from high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock

Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation*:  $24-$28 per hour DOE

 

*Estimated target starting compensation; actual compensation to be determined based on assessment of an individual’s qualifications, education, and experience relevant to the role.
