Major Role and Purpose

Reporting to the President, the Director of Safety, will support the Corporate environmental, health, and safety initiatives through interfacing with Operations departments to ensure goals are met.  This position is responsible to provide strategic leadership and administration on all environmental, health, and safety needs of the organization. This person will be responsible for managing and implementing all Environmental, Health, & Safety programs and procedures in compliance with State and Federal regulations and corporate policies.

 

Description of Duties

This includes, but is not limited to the following:
1.    Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and company safety policies and procedures.
2.    Display leadership, teamwork and strategic planning ability as a member of the Branscome Leadership Team. 
3.    Ability to champion and support the Branscome Goal Zero safety culture (catching people doing things right with positive reinforcement messaging) throughout the organization.
4.    Uphold and promote Branscome’s Business Ethics Principles & Code of Conduct.
5.    Ensures all safety manuals, programs, policies and practices are current and meet the needs of the operating divisions. 
6.    Responsible for developing and implementing company Environmental, Health, & Safety policies and programs that reflect industry best practices.
7.    Responsible for managing the workers’ compensation loss control program including claims, benefits, compensation and modified work programs.  Recommend strategy and negotiate settlement of claims.
8.    Responsible for enforcement and compliance with all Environmental, Health, & Safety regulations including maintaining the documentation, tracking and statistical reporting for all regulatory agencies (OSHA, MSHA, etc.)
9.    Responsible for overseeing and providing appropriate training programs and requirements are developed and implemented to ensure the safe operations of our workforce including the development of annual Site Safety Plans in cooperation with Department Managers, Project Managers, and Superintendents. 
10.    Coach management team members in all matters of compliance and safety. Motivate toward improved safety attitudes, intervention, near-miss reporting and incident reduction.
11.    Work with Human Resources to ensure proper management of the Return to Work Program.
12.    Conduct risk assessments, safety reviews and audits. Identify, prevent and resolve Environmental, Safety & Health deficiencies in the workplace.  
13.    Conduct and review incident investigations to establish root causes and analyze trend data to develop plans in order to prevent future safety incidents. 
14.    Generate monthly reports and statistical reporting in a timely and efficient manner. 
15.    Provides functional expertise in safety regarding hiring and management of safety department employees.
16.    Conduct inspections of facilities and project sites to ensure compliance with safety standards and policies
17.    Identify and advise project and plant staff of safety hazards and means to mitigate
18.    Research, develop, and implement best practices in safe operating procedures and policies
19.    Focus on continuous improvement to achieve improved safety performance
20.    Develop, coordinate, and conduct safety training
21.    Participate in accident and incident reviews to determine root cause(s) and appropriate corrective actions
22.    Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned
    
Education

Bachelor of Science degree (Occupational Safety preferred)
CHST or OSHT or STS certification

 

Work Experience

5 - 10 years of safety management experience

 

Skills Required

1.    Excellent interpersonal skills
2.    Safe driving record
3.    Willingness to work flexible schedule including nights and weekends
4.    Strong work ethic and high degree of professionalism
5.    Knowledge of OSHA 1910 & 1926 standards, DOT, MSHA, FMCSA regulations 
6.    Completion of OSHA 30 hour program in the last five years
7.    Ability to work in a self-directed environment, effectively organizing time and tasks
8.    Ability to deliver effective training programs across all levels of the organization
9.    Proficient in Microsoft Office
