This position combines a key management role with hands-on field participation and requires measurements to show effective reduction in accident frequency and severity, while also ensuring compliance with federal, state, county & city regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all federal, state, local and company safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
- Serve as the regional safety professional, demonstrating ownership over all regional safety functions
- Conduct safety inspections on project sites to ensure compliance with safety standards and policies
- Identify and advise project and plant staff of safety hazards and means to mitigate
- Research, develop and implement best practices in safe operating procedures and policies
- Focus on continuous improvement and partner with management, project staff and others to achieve improved safety performance
- Develop, coordinate and conduct safety training
- Participate in accident & incident reviews to determine root cause(s) and appropriate corrective actions
- Maintain OSHA 300 Log and other compliance recordkeeping
- Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety
- Five (5) years experience in comprehensive construction project safety management or equivalent training
- CHST certification a plus
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in both individual and group settings
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of professionalism with owners, management, project employees, subcontractors, business partners, regulatory agencies, and a variety of other stakeholders
- A comprehensive understanding and ability to keep current on all applicable rules and regulations such as OSHA, MSHA, DOT, etc.
- Ability to work as part as part of a diverse team
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Safe driving record; willingness to travel, including fly, if/when necessary
- Strong ability to perform in a self-directed environment; organizing and prioritizing both time and tasks effectively
