Purpose of the Role

 

This is a UK Mobile role, reporting to the Rugby depot.

To ensure that the planned and corrective maintenance of Colas owned and contracted rail vehicles is effectively undertaken ensuring that safety, compliance, availability and reliability is upheld.

Person Specifications

 

The job holder will have sound experience in rail vehicle engineering and maintenance, specifically On-Track Machines (OTM’s). Additionally the job holder will have experience of maintenance, repair, fault finding, asset management systems and leading change. The ideal candidate should have a working knowledge of the rail operating environment, standards and safety procedures. The job holder will be a motivated self starter, an able and clear communicator, dynamic and tenacious. The job holder will be required to reside in the area for which they are responsible for.

  • Experienced as a plant maintenance technician with On-Track Machines.
  • Apprentice trained, HNC/Degree or working towards approved professional qualification is advantageous.
  • Possess high level of technical knowledge with regard to the maintenance and repair of On-Track Machines.
  • Demonstrate key technical skills over and above routine maintenance.
  • Good understanding and experience in the application of safety legislation and corporate safety procedures.
  • Commercially aware and adaptive to needs of the business.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues, external organisations and management.
  • Experience of cost control management.
  • Demands continuous improvement by setting challenging objectives.
  • Ability to undertake competency assessments.
  • Knowledge of condition monitoring techniques and its application.
  • Possess a professional and positive attitude, driving performance and challenging norms.
  • Be a clear communicator, client focused and maintain a respectable company image.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Act as regional maintenance lead, driving ownership, maintenance effectiveness and machine performance.
  • Provide on-call technical support on rota basis.
  • Monitor local plant performance through key performance indicators, identifying trends and taking remedial action.
  • Support internal and external audit regimes, processes and demonstrate prompt engagement to close out items raised.
  • Support reliability and best practice initiatives through the business unit.
  • Provide input to the development of the engineering standards, maintenance processes and specifications for rail vehicles and assist with changes to the safety management system, engineering policy, certification and training/competency issues relating to rail vehicle maintenance and facilities.
  • Provide input to technical specifications and practices supporting maintenance, modification and use of rail vehicles.
  • Collaboration with all departmental staff on matters relating to work arising, condition monitoring and issues that affect the reliability and availability of plant and machinery.
  • Liaise with Rugby-based maintenance team leaders ensuring that Pre-Shop Inspections are undertaken
  • Undertake planned and reactive maintenance, modifications, repairs, fault finding and provide technical support for rail vehicles and machinery on site and in stabling points.
