Day in the Life

As an Operator/Patroller, you will begin to know the highway like the back of your hand as you perform road maintenance on provincial highways and respond to emergency situations such as spills, accidents, inclement weather, and assist in implementing an emergency plan. You may also assist the Emergency Response Team and MTO patrollers, responding to incidents and working with the OPP, Toronto Fire, and EMS, ensuring the safety of the travelling public. When you are not patrolling the highways, you will be conducting daily circle checks on vehicles, cleaning, and performing equipment maintenance and operating heavy equipment, as required. Safety will be your number one priority, especially when providing traffic control at accident scenes and making snow and ice control decisions such as initiating equipment and operator call outs. It will also be important to stay organized when completing daily timesheets and log books.

You will be an essential member of the maintenance team and first point of contact in some situations. If you have a safety focused mindset and love to be on the road, this is the ideal role for you.
