Job Summary

The Heavy Equipment Operator manages the safe and efficient operation of multiple pieces of construction equipment. They are proficient in the use of a diverse range of equipment, including, Excavators, Loaders, Dozers, Rollers, Graders, Skid Steers, and others as required. This is a Union position.

Main Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment used in construction in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations.
  • Ensure risk-free operation of equipment by performing pre-operation and regular checks on their functionality.
  • Maneuver heavy equipment into loading or unloading positions, following signals from crew as needed; check that the vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is accurately positioned.
  • Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
  • Use various pieces of equipment to perform fine grading and finishing, sloping, and banking, backfilling, demolition, ditching, loading, excavating and stockpiling.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the equipment.
  • Must have a clear understanding of and follow the principles of our Policies and Procedures.
  • Promote, implement, and comply to the Safety Program standards.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current member of applicable Union.
  • Authorizations to operate vehicles linked to the field of activity

Physical Requirements

  • Pass pre-employment/random drug screening and a PAT (physical abilities test).
  • May occasionally exert force of 20-50 pounds, 10-25 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds constantly.
