Purpose of the Role

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join Colas' Technical Services Division based at Royal Edward Dock, Bristol, BS11 9BJ. Reporting to the Binders & Development Manager, you will be involved in the effective and efficient running of the laboratory, to always observe the safety policies of the company and the department, ensure that all operations carried out within our area of responsibility are undertaken with full regard for the safety of visitors, other members of staff and yourself.

Main Responsibilities

 

As a Laboratory Technician, you will plan and carry out testing and equipment calibrations in accordance with the relevant standards and/or procedures. (These tests/procedures should only be performed when competency has been successfully assessed), you will assist with the evaluation of the results of tests and calibrations as required, including reporting opinions and interpretations, undertake training (internal/external) as required, perform sampling, happy to work to variable time patterns and be flexible. You will be involved with Safety Procedures in the laboratory, undertake quality control work in the laboratory on new deliveries of bitumen and blended batches, assist in maintaining the laboratory facilities in good order, maintain all laboratory records for work undertaken, assist with quality procedures and other projects as required. You will ensure that work is carried out speedily, foster and maintain effective communication with terminal operations and carry out other appropriate duties as assigned by your line manager. 

 

The Ideal Candidate

 

The perfect candidate will have experience in QC laboratory workings and functions, report writing and maintenance of laboratory records, able to communicate effectively with other departments within Colas / Continental Bitumen. We are also open to Graduates who have studied Chemistry, Biology or Forensic Sciences and are looking for their first role within a laboratory setting, full training will be provided.

 

As  a Laboratory Technician you will need to be self-motivated, a good team player and able to work with minimum supervision. It is essential you will be highly organised with an excellent attention to detail and meticulous approach, time management and prioritisation of work for self and team against changing demands of network needs and experience using Microsoft Office Suites. A driving licence is required for this role as you may need to travel for training and to other sites if required.
