Mission

 

Reeves Construction Company has an immediate opening for a talented, motivated, and experienced Assistant Plant Superintendent overseeing the Reeves – Blacksburg and Pacolet Asphalt Plants.

 

The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Plant Superintendent are to oversee asphalt plants and supervise employees directly related in the manufacturing and distribution of aggregates and hot mix asphalt.

 

Successful candidate for this role will have an uncompromising focus on safety excellence.

Main Responsibilities

 

  • Develops production plans in advance with the Plant Manager and Sales Department, taking into account customer requirements with respect to quantity, type of product and shipping schedule; reviewing budgeted costs, manpower requirements to meet production plans.  Assumes responsibility for meeting requirements of the approved production plan at the minimum cost and consistent with good operating practice.
  • Analyzes results of plant operations to pinpoint the variances from plans.  Inform Plant Manager of action taken to correct conditions causing variances with results.
  • Ensures all plants are operating in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Assists the maintenance foreman in the maintenance of all plants and equipment.
  • Participate and have hands-on involvement in plant repairs and ensure projects move forward as planned.
  • Ensures all trucks at various locations are used in the most efficient manner possible.
  • Keeps operating expenses within budget allowance while conducting a continuous cost reduction program and being alert for other improvements in plant operation.
  • Works with QC department to deliver the highest quality product. 
  • Analyzes hazards, corrects, trains personnel in safe procedures.  Formulates and enforces safety procedures.
  • Requests necessary personnel to staff the plant for the forecast level of operations.  Assigns tasks, train and check progress of personnel, frequently keeping them advised of their progress. 
  • Maintains effective employee morale.  Handles grievances at the plant level, reporting cases which remain unsolved and continue bothersome to the HR & Superintendent.  Approves vacations and other absences within the limits of the CBA.
  • Maintains properties in good condition and appearance.   Carries out approved plans for plant rehabilitation and beautification.
  • Orders necessary parts and services to maintain equipment in proper running order.
  • Prioritizes the need for repairs on equipment based on pre-shift inspection reports.
  • Submits recommendations each year to the Plant Manager covering capital improvements, additions and replacements of plant and equipment.
  • Directs the use of standard accounting procedures in JDE and other forms to ensure the routine reporting of data relating to production, sales, inventories, costs, etc. as required.
  • Assists Plant Manager in developing operating budgets.
  • Deals with customers and employees in a courteous, friendly, and honest manner.  Makes every effort to follow this policy and to influence the employees working under his direction to do likewise.
  • Ensures that the plant, equipment and site are kept in compliance with all EPA and environmental regulations.
  • Follows all federal and state laws governing business and the company’s core values in all decision regarding business and personnel.

Qualifications

 

  • High School Diploma or GED, Required
  • 10 years of progressive experience in manufacturing, aggregates/asphalt, Required
  • 5 years of supervision experience, Required
  • Good Communication Skills
  • Good Mechanical Aptitude
  • Good computer skills. Hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, and Excel)
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work with confidential information

Physical Requirements

    

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds from the ground to the waist
  • Ability to sit or stand for hours at a time
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl

Working Conditions

 

  • This job requires the ability to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs., bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat twist, and climb heavy equipment several times throughout the day, and balance at heights up to 6 feet from ground level. In addition, you must have the ability to be on your feet regularly and use hands, arms, and legs repeatedly on the job.  This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces, as well as working in confined areas.
  • This job requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts).
  • This job requires the ability to perform essential job tasks in less than favorable job conditions.  These may include but are not limited to: Performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, sand, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Work may be performed in an environment with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment.
