Compensation

$26.92/hr - 36.02/hr

Job Summary

The Truck Boss will work closely with all the Trucking & Field Operations team and will work directly under the Logistics Supervisor. The Truck Boss will be responsible for assisting Field Operations with trucking needs. The Truck Boss will fulfill various roles such as: Providing on-site assistance to the field, monitor driver productivity, verify and sign accurate BOL’s, provide feedback to supervisor and operations on ways to improve efficiency and productivity, etc. Expected competencies include dependability, being action-oriented (pro-active), able to develop the skills of field operations, is customer-focused, and strives to increase technical skills and knowledge. Responsible for assisting the Logistics Supervisor with Safety, on time delivery, driver calls, customer calls, and customer service.

Main Responsibilities

• Daily review of driver paperwork, data input and data flow for transport related systems and processes.

• Prior to job starting, communicate with the foreman to discuss how trucking for the job is to be coordinated.

• Responsible for making sure all the trucks for the job arrive on time, and stage at the proper location(s).

• If there are trucks missing, the Truck Boss is to immediately communicate with dispatcher, and to coordinate contacting the broker to locate or replace the missing trucks.

• Communicate with the foreman and the logistics office about any delays or issues with the trucking, which may adversely affect the operation.

• Keep in constant communication with the drivers to make sure they are following instructions, such as truck routes, specific job requirements, access to and from job sites or dumping areas, using the correct radio frequency, avoid over-spraying release agent, wasting time, etc.

• Keep in constant communication with the ground crew to make sure truck flow is steady and is to promptly notify of any issues that slow down the flow.

• Should be able to identify alternate routes, or any other opportunities that can help the operation run more efficiently.

• Assist Logistics Supervisor by running the haul and identify best route (if hourly) prior to start of new job to confirm truck count etc.

• Keep record of trucks and the hours that have excessive delays on their haul times.

• Keep notes on load & unload times and report to Superintendent and/or logistics department. • Gather and track Daily trucking tickets to verify hours and turn into dispatch

• Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

• Highschool Diploma.

• 5 years’ experience in Transportation and Construction.

• Extensive Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations preferred.

• Minimum Requirements – Class A CDL with 2 years of verifiable driving experience. Clean driving record.

Desired Skills/Abilities

• Truck Boss, construction, and/or paving operations experience.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work as a team and independently.

• Excellent planning and organizational skills.

• Highly dependable individual with the capability to multi-task.

• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job satisfactorily.

• Must be self-motivated, display initiative, be reliable, dependable, and trustworthy.

• Knowledge of Southern California aggregate trucking market is a plus.

• Hold a Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.

• Preferred history/experience in Dump and transporting equipment.

• Strong knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.

• Preferred knowledge of the LA, High Desert Areas.

• Preferred knowledge of the truck routes and local city’s trucking requirements (Special permits, curfews, etc).

• Bilingual English / Spanish preferred

Physical Requirements

• Ability to utilize hands and fingers to type and carry reports should the need require.

• Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands throughout the workday.

• Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.

• Ability to sit, walk, and stand for a long period of time, possibly more than 90% of the workday.

• Ability to see clearly or with assistance via necessary correction.

• Must be willing to work days, nights, weekends, and out of town.
