Summary

As a Mainline Hoe Operator, you will be responsible for reporting to the superintendent and responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a mainline excavator. The ideal candidate has knowledge in areas of underground water and sewer construction and can understand and interpret layout stakes to complete accurate excavations.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Comfortable excavating in close proximity to existing utilities. 
  • Operate the Excavator and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. 
  • Work with ground personnel in the excavation and installation process of laying pipe on line and grade. 
  • Operate Hoe on public roadways, maintaining proper awareness of ones surroundings. 
  • Understand and follow directions from supervisors as to required work area. 
  • Work with the Foreman/Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents or near misses on the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company's Safety Program. 
  • Recognizes existing and potential hazards and knows how to identify these through conducting a field-level pre-job hazard analysis, checking the machine for hazards, and assessing any tasks before starting. 
  • Analysis of the information concerning the carrying out of the work, transfer of vehicles to the construction site, installs construction site signs and provides access roads in compliance with the traffic rules for safe work. 
  • Takes care of the proper adjustment of their equipment and vehicles before operating them.
  • Carries out the work, operating the vehicles according to the prerogatives of the required authorizations and ensuring safety.
  • Carries out work based on precise directives from their hierarchy.
  • Maintains vehicles: clearing and verification of vehicles after use, carries out standard upkeep (minor repairs) in observance of the company’s environmental guidelines and the regulations,  notifies their manager in the event of anomalies. 

Qualifications

  • Professional qualification 
  • Has a valid license 
  • Authorizations to operate vehicles linked to the field of activity
  • Possesses five years of experience or more
  • High attention to detail is required
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies
  • Must have own steel-toe safety boots
  • Those who possess extra training tickets is considered an asset
