About The Role

The Paving Foreman/woman directs and manages all on-site construction workers, subcontractors and equipment, enforcing the company’s direction, policies, procedures and safety standards, while meeting construction deadlines. The construction work is varied from all facets of small civil jobs to large municipal projects.


As a Paving Foreman at Standard General, you will:

  • Ensure the sufficient deployment and productivity of work crews.
  • Ensure materials and equipment are available and organized.
  • Organize and coordinate the daily activities of all crew members, subcontractors, and equipment.
  • Represent the company professionally in the community and maintain ongoing good business relationship with customer base and suppliers.
  • Read and interpret project plans and specifications.
  • Review and adhere to construction schedules, ensuring milestones and completion dates are met.
  • Lead and direct people, equipment and resources in the construction of roads.
  • Ensure consistent and fair application of the progressive disciplinary policy.
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture, and an integral component of regular duties.
  • Prepare and submit incident reports and WCB reports within the specific deadlines.
  • Administer and submit daily reporting.
  • Train and promote the development of subordinates in the best practice of operations and company standards.
  • Work with the Human Resource Department on matters of employee performance and discipline, when required.
  • Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
  • Must examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics.
  • Perform duties safely around mobile equipment and have a high sense of safety awareness while performing work.
  • Other duties as required.


To Be Successful In this Role, You Will Need:

  • Valid Driver's License (Class 5).
  • Minimum 2 years as a paving foreman.
  • 10 years related paving experience preferred.
  • Work references required.
  • Proficiency in use of all equipment and tools related to asphalt paving.
  • Experience using grade control on paving equipment.
  • Knowledge of road construction methods, road construction materials and industry requirements.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Positive attitude and ability to motivate and mentor crew members.
  • Proactive with the ability to plan effectively and address issues promptly.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Use of personal protection equipment is required.
  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol policy, including testing requirements.
  • Must comply with all company policies.
  • Must be able to work respecting safety policies and procedures.
  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
