Purpose of the Role

 

Lead in the Development of individual Infrastructure Schemes within the regional programme of enhancements schemes. Own the planning of works in compliance with all relevant Safety Legislation, to the correct specification and in the most cost-effective manner, taking development of schemes through from GRIP stage 3 to 5.
 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Plan Enhancements works in line with the end to end process and the GRIP (Guide to Railway Investment Process). Guarantee changes to scope and specification are managed and that Risk/Change Registers are robustly maintained.
  • Lead on methodologies, resource requirements and train and access plans being prepared to maintain safe and cost-effective delivery of the works.
  • Attend specification reviews and site walkouts with the client or sponsor representatives. Assisting in GRIP stage 1-2 if instructed.
  • Own that constructability is embedded within the design of the scheme principle from the outset, which include delivering the GRIP stages 3 to 7 works or the equivalent Track End to End process requirements.
  • Development schemes with full consideration of multi-discipline work items, signalling, electrification, power and civil functions are engaged where required by the scope of work to guarantee all required enabling and support works are planned, resourced and costed for safe and efficient delivery.
  • Continually update methodologies through development stages providing a robust train plan, staging plan, possession plan and TSR plan. Ensuring also that all strategic plant requirements are in place.
  • Work within the project delivery team to deliver the access and strategic resource plans for the delivery of proposed works.
  • Own that agreed performance and other KPI’s are met.
  • Maintain all work activities being planned in accordance with conditions of contract, health and safety legislation and company procedures.
  • Through a review of completed works and continuous liaison with production teams, guarantee ‘best practice’ and ‘lessons learnt’ are incorporated into future development plans.
  • Support Production Manager with business planning and overall management of the delivery programme as directed.
  • Duty management on site throughout the delivery of ‘core weekend’ works.
  • As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
     

Person Specification

 

  • Extensive knowledge of the Enhancements processes, operational railway and associated safety matters
  • A willingness to embrace new ways of working.
  • Chartered Engineer, desirable
  • Ideally educated to degree level
  • Knowledge of Construction Management
