Job Summary:

Simon’s internship program is designed to provide first-hand exposure to industry operations, as well as 1:1 mentorship and networking opportunities to students in order to supplement college educational programs in the areas of business, engineering, and construction management.  Students in the program have the opportunity to work in various administrative and operational areas, contribute to company goals through completion of focused project work, and apply concepts learned in the classroom to business operations.
    
Under direct supervision, the Environmental Intern is involved in monitoring activities to ensure all facilities remain aligned with applicable environmental regulations and established company policies and procedures, while promoting CSR initiatives related to environmental impact of operations.

 

Main Responsibilities:

•    Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
•    Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies 
•    Develop and implement biodiversity actions within the company
•    Assist with site audits related to environmental compliance and maintenance of related records
•    Review and audit the permit database to ensure compliance with company policies and standards
•    Review and complete Echo Checklists related to CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives
•    Review stormwater management plans and inspections to maintain compliance with policies and procedures
•    Assist with reviewing all site documentation related to air permit compliance
•    Assist with managing the Company’s environmental health program at the project level
•    Complete other special projects and tasks as assigned
•    Meet regularly with assigned mentor to discuss ideas, navigate challenges, and gain insight
•    Complete capstone project/presentation to be shared with Company leadership at the end of the internship

Education:

•    Active enrollment in an accredited degree program in engineering, occupational safety, environmental science, or related field of study 
•    Valid Driver’s License and acceptable MVR required
•    OSHA 30Hr/10Hr certification preferred

Skills:

•    Computer skill, including use of Microsoft Office 365 programs (Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams, OneNote, etc.), mobile devices and related applications
•    Effective organizational and time management skills
•    Ability to communicate professionally and effectively verbally and in writing
•    Ability to maintain attention to detail, quantitative and analytical skills
•    Ability to work independently and as part of a team
•    Basic knowledge of standard regulations related to environmental safety, including air/water quality, OSHA, etc.
•    Familiarity with air monitor device calibration, fit testing, etc. preferred

Physical Requirements:

•    Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company safety guidelines
•    Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
•    Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and manipulate objects
•    Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear) 
•    Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 
•    Frequently required to stand/work on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
•    Frequently work in close proximity to heavy equipment and machinery, exposure to loud noise
•    Frequent exposure to typical construction site conditions, including dust and loud noise, and all weather conditions
•    Frequent travel required (50%) to access sites in CO, NE, SD, and WY, including stays overnight away from home
