Maintenance Summer Student (4 Months)

With instructions from the Lead Hand or Foreperson the Summer Student will work to perform repairs and maintain the highway infrastructure to meet the performance requirements of the Contracted Directed Maintenance Contact (CDMC).

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance duties on highway infrastructure as required in the CDMC. This includes debris control, litter picking, grass cutting and graffiti removal.
  • Develop an understanding of the performance requirements in the Area maintenance contract. For E.g. requirements about catch basins, ditch inlets, potholes, grass etc.
  • Conduct daily circle checks on vehicles. Ensure fuel and other fluid levels are optimum. Clean and maintain the vehicle and perform minor repairs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation - Hours of service, Fuel records, Incident reports, Timesheets, Diaries, Logs etc.
  • Assist with general duties to ensure cleanliness and order within the shop, lunchroom, washroom, common areas and exterior of yard.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Willingness to learn and appreciate Miller values - safety, quality, and integrity so we can continue “Building Greatness”.
  • Must have a valid G license, with a clean driver’s abstract required.
  • Excellent team player to work productively in a highly functional team.
  • Flexibility and organizational skills to multi-task and manage time in a fast-paced environment with rapidly shifting priorities.
  • Basic computer skills to operate the computer and use MS Office.
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) to accurately document daily activities, incident reports and deficiency logs.
  • Able to work at minimum 40 Hours a week.
  • Ability to perform manual labour, lift up to 50 lbs above shoulder height, able to bend, and sit & stand for periods of time.
  • Construction experience is an asset.
  • Comfortable working in all weather conditions.
