Job Summary

  • Carries out manual tasks which contribute to the carrying out of the project for their professional specialty (road, pipelines, rail, etc.) in observance of the safety guidelines.

Main Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment used in construction in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations.
  • Ensure risk-free operation of equipment by performing pre-operation and regular checks on their functionality.
  • Maneuver heavy equipment into loading or unloading positions, following signals from crew as needed; check that the vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is accurately positioned.
  • Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
  • Use various pieces of equipment to perform fine grading and finishing, sloping and banking, backfilling, demolition, ditching, loading, excavating and stockpiling.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the equipment.
  • Must have a clear understanding of, and follow the principles of our Policies and Procedures.
  • Promote, implement and comply to the Safety Program standards.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least three (3) years of experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
  • Ability to climb in and out of equipment unassisted.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Frequently lift 20 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to have a flexible work schedule, including working overtime and weekends as needed.

Skills

  • Three to four years of a combination of technical instruction and on-the-job training or field training.
  • Follow all safety protocols.
  • Ability to read gauges, dials and other indicators.
  • Troubleshoot any issues and fix the problems with critical thinking.
  • Effective communication, including speaking, writing, active listening and taking instructions from management team.
  • Practical knowledge of reading blueprints and manuals.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Attention to detail to identify maintenance, product or operations issues.
