The Colas Group operates internationally in every aspect of construction and maintenance for roads and for other types of transport infrastructure as well as on projects involving urban development and recreational facilities.  The COLAS operation in Ireland primarily involves the distribution of bitumen products, emulsion manufacturing, chemical manufacturing and the provision of specialist road maintenance services on the national, regional and local roads network. COLAS in Ireland is an all island cross border business operating from 14 locations.  

Role Details

Colas Join Venture part of the Colas Ireland Group are looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor.
 

The Quantity Surveyor will work with Colas Joint Venture, who are the maintenance Contractor for the Motorway Maintenance & Renewals Contract Network B. The Motorway Maintenance and Renewals Contract is a mechanism for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to maintain the national road network consisting of Motorway/Dual Carriageway. Network B is managed by Colas JV and includes the Midlands/West of the country with over 300km of carriageway and includes parts of the N/M4, N/M6, M7, N19, M20 and N85. S/He will report to the General Manager.
 

The Quantity Surveyor will also support the strategic aims of Colas Ireland by monitoring and tracking of tendering activities across the Colas Ireland Group. This will require the monitoring of eTenders to identify opportunities of interest for Colas Ireland companies, distribution of this information, analysis of tendering results and the creation of tools to understand the various markets in which Colas Ireland companies participate.

Main Responsibilities

The Quantity Surveyor’s responsibilities shall include but not be limited to the following;

  • Monitor ETenders and other procurement platforms to identify relevant tender opportunities for civil engineering/maintenance projects for Colas Ireland companies
  • Maintain accurate records of tender submissions for Colas Ireland, market analysis findings, and relevant industry data for future reference and analysis
  • Conduct market analysis to identify trends, pricing fluctuations, and emerging opportunities in the construction/road maintenance industry.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for civil engineering and maintenance projects, including material, labour, and equipment costs.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of project specifications and drawings to identify potential cost risks and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop cost control strategies and monitor project budgets throughout the construction process.
  • Prepare and submit progress payment applications, variations, and final accounts to clients and subcontractors in a timely manner.
  • Negotiate and review contracts with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure favorable terms and conditions for the company.
  • Perform site visits as required to assess progress, verify quantities, and identify any discrepancies or deviations from the original plans.
  • Assist in the resolution of disputes or claims related to costs, contracts, and project specifications.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, regulations, and best practices in quantity surveying and construction cost management.
  • Manage the procurement process for materials and subcontractors using Sage 200 or other Colas systems

Profile

  • Bachelors Degree in Quantity Surveying or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a proven track record in monitoring ETenders and conducting market analysis.
  • Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Strong understanding of Irish construction procurement processes, including ETenders and public sector tendering frameworks
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools for quantity surveying, tender management, and market analysis

Job Location

This role will be based either at MMR Ennis or MMR Athlone depending on the candidates preference.
