Day in the Life
You will begin your day by opening the plant, which includes performing a daily inspection and ensuring that everything is ready to run smoothly and in good operating order, making any adjustments needed. Communication within and across departments will be a key factor of success in this role as daily collaboration with our payroll system will be required to ensure the staff’s hours are submitted in a timely manner, as well as meeting with the dispatch manager to review the game plan for the day. Another component of the role will include customer service, as you will be responsible for taking customer orders. Relationship building will also be made with our material suppliers as the position requires you to work closely together to manage the inventory needs.
You will be the main point of contact for our drivers delivering loads, as well as maintaining quality control, and keeping the team organized and on time.
A commitment to Health and Safety is a critical component of the role, as the successful candidate will demonstrate their commitment to safety through safety talks, as the team will rely on your guidance to prepare and advise them of daily hazards assessments and to draw awareness to any special considerations needed for their upcoming jobs.
The majority of the day is running our plant through operational and dispatch software. You will then spend the balance enjoying the outdoors in the yard, running the loader to feed the plant, doing walk arounds to identify any areas of improvement or safety concerns, or performing minor repairs to equipment.
Our staff take pride in knowing we service some of the biggest and most challenging construction projects in Ontario, with a network of 26 plants across Southern Ontario with over 200 trucks, which has allowed us to be one of the top concrete suppliers in the province. The plant operator is the heart of each operation, you will be able to directly see how your contributions create meaningful work – providing you with job fulfillment while adding to our organization’s success. While the days can be long, having a solid and well functioning team is what really makes the days go by quickly.
