Primary Function

 

Carpenter Bridge Helper is responsible for assisting bridge carpenters with the construction duties, performing construction tasks as needed, and ensuring the completion of the project timely and efficiently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Work will involve physical exertion of a practical nature.  Individual may have limited or no experience in road and/or site construction.
  • Abilities must be flexible as to allow various labor activities including, but not limited to:  shoveling dirt, sand, asphalt or concrete using shovels; cutting or trimming trees and vegetation using ditch blades, sling blades, chain saws or power weed trimmers; driving stakes or breaking concrete using sledge hammers, operating hand-driven compaction devices.
  • Handles, stacks, and move formwork and materials.  Keep jobsite clean and orderly by cleaning and stacking materials not in use.
  • Perform shoveling, raking, and demolition work as required.
  • Assist others during concrete placements, traffic control, and prefabrication tasks.
  • Able to work and assist others to work in a safe manner within the guidelines of the company’s policies.
  • Any other task assigned by supervisor.

Experience and Qualifications

 

  • 1-2 years of experience working in bridge construction or a similiar field.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Skills and Abilities

 

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence. 
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two- step instructions.  
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms;  climb or balance;  stoop, kneel, crouch, or walk; talk or hear; and taste or smell.  The employee frequently is required to stand and walk.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Employees must have 20/40 vision, either naturally or with corrective lenses.  Hearing should be excellent or corrected by audio device.
