Position Summary

The Facility Manager is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of one of our Hamilton Petroleum Asphalt Terminal. The Facility Manager ensures that all aspects of manufacturing, administration, maintenance, and safety are being carried out in an efficient and organized way. The Facility Manager supervises staff, implements policy and provides safety training. The positions duties will also include the transportation of raw materials and finished products, purchasing, budgeting, quality control, preventative maintenance programs, and customer service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coding and approving all invoices and expense reports for the facility.
  • Responsible for creating and receiving all purchase orders for the facility.
  • Works with engineering to manage all facility projects.
  • Handles all seasonal layoffs as required.
  • Ensures compliance with all ISO standards.
  • Responsible for the inventory of all materials in the facility.  Accounts for all variances for all inventoried items.
  • Responsible for all month end reporting.
  • Setup and maintain all external training that is required (first aid, forklift, fire safety, etc.).
  • Quality Control at the facility.
  • Supervises activities of hourly employees.
  • Schedules and assigns employee’s work based on production needs.
  • Works closely with the quality assurance team and customers to ensure that products meet customer needs and expectations (to include customer visits).
  • Attends daily production meetings on the daily running and operations of the plant.
  • Housekeeping of entire plant, field supervision and trouble-shooting production/maintenance issues leading to housekeeping cleanliness issues.  Maintain housekeeping standards.
  • Ensure compliance with McAsphalt HSE&Q policies.  Conduct crew safety meetings and required inspections to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure plant operation within environmental regulations and limits.
  • Communication of plant requirements to on-coming shift. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities Continued

  • Works with staff, trains personnel, management and operational staff in production, maintenance and shipping procedures.
  • Implements and monitors procedures to maximize plant efficiency while controlling cost of production.
  • Coordinates necessary loading of trucks.
  • Manages critical spares and minimizes inventory cost.
  • Maintains a maintenance backlog and plan for preventive maintenance.
  • Audits production, maintenance and shipping processes to promote best practices.
  • Works with operations management to develop yearly budgets.
  • Creates and oversees a detailed maintenance plan.
  • Provide Health and Safety Training to new and existing employees.
  • Responsible for the staffing and overall supervision of the plant.
  • Conducting annual performance reviews with staff.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Regional Manager, VP, Operations, or per the Facility Manager manual.

Required Qualifications

  • Technical degree or diploma.
  • Effective supervisory, interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Three to five years of experience in a manufacturing or process environment.
  • Strong Customer Service background.
  • Experience in manufacturing Petroleum Asphalt and Asphalt products.
  • Capability for troubleshooting and taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft products such as Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
