Position Summary

The Lead Hand Operator performs general supervision over all operators and labourers on their shift. They may perform any tasks described in the production and/or general labourer job descriptions. They may supervise additional staff and assist in the training of new staff members.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Lead Hand must be competent in all the operations of the area being supervised. In exercising
supervisory duties they are responsible for ensuring all individuals reporting to them follow established
production and safety protocols and procedures. Additionally, they must understand the hazards of the
area and ensure that they are properly communicated to the production and/or Facility manager.  Specific competencies include:

 

•    Facility Orientation for Visitors, Contractors, Drivers during the shift.
•    Facilitating and recording pre-shift safety meetings using Enablon
•    Delegation and supervision of work assignments: Safety Inspection, Maintenance Work Orders, Emulsion Production Orders, House Keeping, Incident Reports, HR Issues, etc.
•    Responsible for enforcing safety procedures and best practices.
•    Responsible for ensuring that all required permits are filled out prior to the start of work: Field Level Hazard Assessment, Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, etc.
•    Entering data into JDE: Production Work Orders, Maintenance Work Orders, Processing Sales Tickets, etc.
•    Conducting inventory checks as required.
•    Training new personnel.
•    Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
•    Have a positive and professional attitude and is a team player with the ability motivate their team.

 

Required Qualifications:

•    High School Diploma or Equivalent
•    Preferred assets include physical fitness, mechanical aptitude, a valid driver’s license with a good driving record required to operate any McAsphalt Vehicle.
•    Knowledge of JDE would be an asset. 
•    Completion of the minimum required safety training and successful completion of training in any task prior to training others.
•    The Lead Operator will perform all tasks that they have been trained for within the facility. As each task capability is met, the Production Manager or Facility manager will complete the required training records indicating that the individual can complete the described task.
