Excavator Operator (1) to begin March 17, 2025.

Job Summary:

Works with ground personnel in the excavation and installation process of laying pipe online and grade.

Main Responsibilities:

•    Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
•    Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies 
•    Support the Simon safety culture and other Company strategic initiatives
•    Safely operates a large excavator.
•    Ensures trench is excavated to the proper depth/grade with proper safety sloping or protection.
•    Responsible for placement of water, storm & sanitary sewer pipe in the excavation.
•    Ensures all work is conducted in a safe and responsible manner.
•    Follows directions of ground crew regarding craning, gravel placement and grading.
•    Ability to cut grade with minimal time spent on excavating to ensure production is on schedule.
•    Knowledge of changes in soil conditions and materials that impact operations.
•    Conducts trench work so that it meets OH&S requirements.
•    Knowledge of proper rigging of pipe, manhole barrels, etc. and ensures safe work procedures are followed during lowering of materials into the excavation.
•    Perform minor maintenance to excavation equipment; report problems or defects to mechanic for repair.

Education:

•    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
•    Valid drivers’ license with ability to maintain a clean driving history required

Skills:

•    Two years plus of excavator operation for utility work
•    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

Physical Requirements:

•    Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
•    Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
•    Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel
•    Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear) 
•    Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 
•    Standing/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
•    Regularly required to work from a seated position operating equipment for long periods
•    Frequent exposure to loud noise 
•    Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration
•    Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles
•    Regularly exposed to fuel, oil, and other chemicals
•    Occasionally exposed to working from high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock
