Purpose of the Role

 

To support the Lead Engineer in all technical matters associated with the planning and construction of the allocated multi-disciplinary sites. To co-ordinate all P Way aspects of construction and associated works with the other disciplines. To deliver construction work safely to the level of quality expected by the company and the Client; to budget and in line with all relevant standards, processes and procedures.
 

Key Responsibilities

 

Work as directed by the Lead Engineer to:

  • Ensure proposed construction plans are safe, cost effective, and achievable
  • Assist the Lead Engineer in improving productivity and introducing innovation
  • Carry out risk assessments as part of design and construction work
  • Carry out analysis, prepare plans/programmes, review or check Particular Specification, undertake detailed planning, site visits and progress work as directed.
  • Produce planning documents, multi-discipline Work Package Plans and Task Brief
  • Discuss all construction and constructability issues with the construction team
  • Produce schedules of resources and P Way materials to be ordered
  • Control all on-site technical activities and quality control
  • Ensure liaison with other disciplines.
  • Follow all safety critical processes (such as Ground disturbance, CRT, track commissioning etc)
  • Refer any Design issues to the Design Manager
  • Refer non-compliances to the standards and all technical issue to the Lead Engineer
  • Ensure timely production and communication of reports, including the submission of technical documents for the Health and Safety file.
  • Attendance at planning, progress and technical meetings as directed
  • Attendance at engineering and technical briefing as directed
  • Attendance at all training and induction courses as directed
  • Assist in audits as directed
  • Weekend / Night duty as per roster

Person Specification

 

Essential

  • Education to HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent suitable experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of permanent way and related engineering principles, including interfaces between disciplines
  • Good knowledge and understanding of track standards, processes and procedures
  • Computer literacy
  • Safety Management training
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation relevant to Construction and Engineering
  • Must be able to drive
  • Ideally working towards a professional qualification
