Job Summary

The shop mechanic tasked with maintenance and repairs to fleet vehicles and heavy equipment. This position will interact with shop employees, paving crew members, construction members, and vehicle drivers.

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform all service on vehicles and equipment from light to heavy maintenance such as preventative and predictive maintenance.
  • Complete maintenance and repair logs.
  • Maintain and secure work tools.
  • Clean and maintain work area.
  • Turn off and lock out equipment when not in use.
  • Report to field to perform mechanic duties, as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Education

  • Graduated from a standard vocational or high school.
  • Experience at the journeyman level in the repair of heavy construction equipment and fleet vehicles and/or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Skills

  • Able to employ the best judgment and resourcefulness in performing mechanical repair work and understand and communicate repair needs and outcome.
  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills are required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with our Motor Vehicle Policy.

Physical Requirements

  • Most work will be performed within a heated building, on a concrete floor.
  • Some of the work at job sites so much be comfortable working in the elements.
  • On their feet most of the day performing lifting operations, performing tasks while using hand tools, pneumatic tools, lifts, carts, welding equipment, ladders, and other tools/machinery as needed.
