Minimum Qualifications:

  • Technical College degree/diploma in Civil Engineering, Technologist or equivalent  
  • Minimum 3-5 years related experience  
  • Relevant experience in obtaining scopes of work and pricing from subcontractors, submitting tenders and closing bids  

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in heavy sector contracting is a definite asset  
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and calculate precise quantities and estimates  
  • Knowledge of cost control techniques and material pricing  
  • Strong computer skills using MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Suretrack and Heavy Bid estimating software, or equivalent systems  
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work in a changing environment  

Day in the life:

  • Interpret project drawings, specifications, supplier and subcontractor quotes, proposals and other documentation accurately 
  • Prepare detailed estimates from first principals using cost history in accordance with estimating policy, procedures and best practices 
  • Prepare and distribute RFQ’s and solicit quotations and proposals from suppliers and subcontractors  
  • Establish and maintain relationships with existing and new suppliers and subcontractors and communicate any relevant changes to these stakeholders 
  • Attend site visits, pre-bid and pre-award meetings as required   
  • Review, analyze and check for completeness of bid documents before and after delivery 
  • Maintaining relationships with owner, architect, consultants, subcontractors, and the public  
  • Develop and monitor the project schedule, budget and quality control  
  • Ensure all scope and contract extras are approved by the customer  
  • Handle change orders, including negotiating, processing and assessing cost and schedule impacts, and preparation of claims  
  • Identify project risks, highlight problems and issues as early as possible to senior management; ensuring mitigating actions are in place to minimize impact 
  • Provide performance status reports regarding cost forecasts, schedule and safety  
  • Understand and enforce contractual responsibilities, contract documents and resolving disputes  
  • Liaise with authorities and regulatory agencies   
  • Ensure compliance with quality control plan   
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to the client as required
