Job Summary

 

This exciting, new program will allow a participant to have experiences in project management, estimating, and manufacturing at three different locations across the United States. After approximately 24-27 months of training and mentorship, a fixed position will be assigned that fits the participant's technical and location interests as they continue to develop their career. 

 

Participants will provide individualized development plans and be assigned to our best mentors in each of their rotation assignments. Pay will be very competitive with housing assistance provided. A company vehicle (if needed) will also be provided. As a new graduate, you will also be in the Colas Explore program that will provide additional development and allow you to network with peers across Colas. The program includes discussions with company executives and two in-person trips to visit job and manufacturing sites at different locations across the USA.

Main Responsibilities

 

Project Management

 

  • Assists Project Engineers and Project Managers as they manage various aspects of a construction project
  • Duties could include tracking quantities, contacting vendors and subcontractors, along with submittals
  • Assist with project safety, including leading safety discussions and helping provide PPE to field employees
  • Learn and utilize programs such as HeavyJob

 

Manufacturing

 

  • Work closely with managers and superintendents in one or more of our manufacturing areas
  • Could be involved with asphalt, concrete, aggregate, emulsions, or other production processes
  • Learn applicable software programs and assist with running the business
  • Become involved in areas such as mine planning, plant maintenance, and plant projects
  • Contribute to our efforts to have clean and organized plants and shops for safety and efficiency purposes
  • Learn and contribute to efforts to reduce emissions and BTU use as we achieve our corporate reduction efforts

 

Estimating

 

  • Learn and become proficient in programs such as HeavyBid to assist estimators
  • Perform bid takeoffs and assist with calculations 
  • Visit jobsites with estimators in order to become better prepared for bid process
  • Coordinate with project managers and superintendents to ensure bidding is consistent with construction realities
  • Contact potential vendors and subcontractors in order to obtain their bids to include in the overall estimate

Requirements

 

  • Recent college graduate or upcoming graduate in engineering or a technical field
  • High degree of drive and a willingness to learn
  • Geographic mobility during the program with the ability to select a location after the program
  • Willingness to learn from subject matter experts as skills and knowledge are developed
  • Outstanding communication skills 
  • Should have a team mindset to help their work groups succeed as they learn
  • Must be safety oriented 
  • Must be willing to relocate to a different location every 8 months as part of the program (3 moves in total)
  • Previous experience in the construction or manufacturing industry is a significant advantage
  • Should have a spirit of adventure and have a positive attitude
