Purpose of the role

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Highways Supervisor to join the team at our Portsmouth depot, PO6 1TA. The team are responsible for scheduling and overseeing all reactive maintenance works within Portsmouth in relation to the carriageway and footway network, drainage systems, bridge structures and road markings.

 

The team works closely with other departments and Clients in order to ensure all involved parties interests are met. The Highways Supervisor will supervise various work streams within the reactive and proactive programmes and be responsible for supervising these works through to completion, to ensure the projects are completed within identified safety & time parameters.

Main Responsibilities

 

As a Highways Supervisor, you will be maintaining a good relationship with clients and ensuring that all work is carried out to Company Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards and to regularly communicate with staff and operatives on these matters.  You will be carrying out Safety Audits as laid down by line management whilst providing leadership and direction to several gangs across various work activities, e.g., small areas of footway & carriageway surfacing, paving works, drainage, signage, gully cleansing and others.  You will be ensuring operatives ‘Job Packs’ are maintained and up to date. To co-operate with the Group Safety Department in the compilation and update of Safe Working Procedures for the process of which they are involved. As a part of this role you will have a good understanding the COSHH regulations, particularly as they relate to the Recycling Process, and to ensure the required information is relayed to the persons handling the materials concerned. 

Ideal Candidate

 

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate suitable relevant experience in management of highway maintenance. You will have a good working knowledge of health and safety polices, with good IT skills and the ability to keep good work records. You must have a valid clean driving licence and a thorough working knowledge of site safety rules.
